Unicycle tire size and width can make quite an impact on handling. A wider tire with a more aggressive tread will handle better on soft earth, sand, snow, and in mud, whereas a thinner tire will handle better on smoother surfaces like pavement. Wheel size is also hugely important; smaller sizes, such as 24 inch tires, are much more maneuverable and agile but aren’t capable of reaching the speeds of the largest unicycles. Therefore commuting and racing unicycles have larger tires, such as 36 inch tires. In the middle you have great options like 32 inch tires, which handle similarly to a 29 inch, but which are much faster, and which are only slightly slower at top speed than a 36.
