What is a single wheel cycle?

The term “single wheel” cycle, like “one-wheeler” is just another name for a unicycle.

What’s the max weight of these cycles?

Generally speaking, Hoppley, Club and Titan unicycles have a weight limit of 200 lbs and Kris Holm, Nimbus and Impact unicycles have a weight limit of 350 lbs.

What is an inseam and how do I measure it?

Your inseam is the measurement from your groin to the floor when you are barefoot. The best way to measure it is to stand against a wall, barefoot, relaxed, and have a friend measure it. You can also put a book between your legs (as though it were a bike saddle) and have a friend measure the top of the boom to the floor.

What unicycle should a youth start with?

The best unicycle to start with is a 20” unicycle, however, this requires a 25” inseam. If the rider is too short, a 16” unicycle is the best bet, as this requires a smaller inseam of 22”. If the rider is shorter than this, a 12” unicycle is the only option.

I’m an adult and want to learn to ride, but am not interested in tricks. What’s a good first unicycle for me?

The Club 24” and Nimbus II 24” are both great options. The 24” wheel size is the best to learn on, and the best “do it all” option, capable of attaining the speed of a brisk jog.

How do I know what unicycle to get once I learn to ride?

There is no single “best” unicycle for any beginner rider, but a good size to start with is either a 24” or 26” unicycle. These wheel sizes offer a good balance between speed, agility, and a wide range of tire options.

What is the difference in crank lengths?

Since there is no chain drive, in unicycling, it is the diameter of the wheel that determines and limits the overall speed. However, by changing crank length, you can mechanically boost either speed or control, but not both at the same time. Shorter crank arms will boost speed but sacrifice a little control since your pedal arc will be shorter (smaller circles). Longer crank arms will forfeit some speed for greater control since you will be pedaling in larger circles.

What crank length should I use with a 20” unicycle?

The best crank length size for a 20” unicycle, especially for learning, is 125mm.

What crank length should I use with a 36” unicycle?

For starting out with a 36” unicycle, we recommend a 150mm crank arm length. Once you feel comfortable with the wheel size and the handling of the unicycle, and if you feel like you want to go faster, you can install 125mm cranks that will help you boost your speed. However, if your area has sharp hills, the shorter crank arms may make it difficult to control your speed while descending, so you may need a brake.

What size seatpost should I get?

The size seatpost you should get is determined by your inseam. We offer specific measurements in the dropdown box for seatpost options. We only list the minimum inseam measurement to keep things simple. From the minimum inseam, you’ll be able to adjust up about 4” to 5”.

My seatpost does not go low enough for me to ride. Do I need to get another?

You have two options. You can either buy a new one or cut your existing seatpost down. A seatpost can be cut down with a pipe cutter or a hacksaw. If you do not have the tools or are not comfortable cutting down the seatpost a bike shop in your area should be able to perform this service for you.

Can I learn to ride a mountain unicycle on the road?

Yes, a mountain unicycle can be a good type of unicycle to learn to ride on. As long as it’s the right size for you, all you need to do is adjust the tire pressure to make it appropriate to ride on a paved surface. Even a knobby tire in the 3” range will handle well on a paved surface if the pressure is adjusted appropriately. You will find that unicycle tires last a long time, no matter what surface you ride on.

What does float mean?

Float is a term applied to unicycle tires; a tire is said to offer “float” if it is wide enough to ride on top of surfaces like snow, sand or mud without sinking in too much. In other words, larger, wider tires float on top of the riding surface without biting in. Narrower tires would sink in, making them unrideable. Tires between 3.8” and 6.2” in width offer float, and most mountain unicycles with 3” tires offer a reasonable degree of float as well.

How can I tell if a unicycle is in stock?

It is easy to tell if a product is in stock on our website. If you can add it to your cart, it is in stock and it will ship the next business day, after you check out. If you are interested in an out of stock item, we offer the benefit of an email notification system. It is found on each product page on the right side panel. There will be a red out of stock button and an email address box beneath that. Enter your email, press notify me, and you will get an email when the item is back in stock.

Does Unicycle.com offer any custom colors or other custom options?

Right now we don’t offer custom colors. What you see offered on our site is what we sell. However, we do offer some part customizations, which are listed in the dropdown options for each individual unicycle.

Do you carry used unicycles?

Typically we do not carry used unicycles because we do not have the room for inventory or a good source for finding used models. We do occasionally offer lightly used D.E.M.O. cycles from our showroom, or discontinued scratch and dent cycles we occasionally find.

Do you ship to Canada?

We currently do not ship to Canada but we have a dealer close to the border; Yoyosam. If they don’t have what you want in their collection they may be able to place a special order for you.
